The purpose of the short course is to develop students’ knowledge and skills related to all aspects of furniture design from design development to production of prototypes. During the 4 week program, students study presentations of materials, history, theories, and detailing of Italian and International furniture.
DESCRIPTION
The entire course is held in the English language. The short course teaches furniture design skills together with a general overview of furniture history. The program is designed for students with a strong interest in Italian furniture design, interior design and industrial design. This course is excellent for students of all levels. People with a general interest in Furniture Design, but have no immediate plans to pursue a degree are also encouraged to enroll.
ITALIAN LANGUAGE
We also combine the Furniture Design courses with Italian language for 3hrs per week – a chance to build confidence and understanding of one of the most beautiful languages in the world. A development of knowledge of the language can help you to enjoy the culture and customs of Florence and Italy even more.

The short course is held for 4 weeks each summer during the month of June only. For the exact dates see our academic calendar.
The furniture course meets 3 hrs per day - Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 15:00-18:00. Tuesdays typically has either special lectures or trips. There is also a course of Italian Language for 1 hr-per day - Monday, Wed, Thursday 13:00-14:00. See here the Summer Application Form:
Short summer courses of graphic design are an intensive introduction to the design process. The studio design course is an introduction to graphic design theory and its application. The course rapidly moves through the fundamental design principles, the planning process and finally the guidelines used in order to create innovative two-dimensional art-work and visual graphics.

The short summer course is an intensive design course in the digital illustration process. The course is an introduction to illustration theory and its application. It is designed to provide students with the skills necessary to not only complete their assignments that include illustrating graphic elements, but also to inspire creative potential in this expressive design field

The Florence Institute offers architecture courses that teach drawing and observational skills plus an introduction to architectural theory and Italian history. This short summer course is designed for students with an interests in the art and architecture of Italy. Most of the course is conducted in the form of walking tours, where students can learn directly from the architecture of Florence
